SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT CRICKET WORLD CUP
Cricket world cup is the SuperBowl of Cricket and is a quadrennial tournament which means it recurs every four years.
The latest edition was held in England in 2019 and also won by the Hosts.
In today's list, we are going to gather and tell you some interesting facts about CWC.
So let us begin:
* India became the first team in 2011 to win the World Cup in its home soil, but after then next two World Cup winners repeated the same feat as Australia and England defeated New Zealand in finals of 2015 and 2019 respectively in their home soil.
* West Indies won the first two world cup and was in the final of 1983 cup, but were upset by India who won their maiden cup. After this defeat, West Indies was not able to bounce back and never came again to finals.
* Though World Cup is the first limited-overs tournament to feature multiple teams, but the first bilateral tournament featuring cricket is a shocking one. The first two teams to play officiated cricket were Canada and the United States.
* India is the only team to win 60 overs, 50 overs and 20 overs tournament.
* Australia has the longest winning streak which began in 1999 midst tournament and went on to 2011 edition where it lost a match to Pakistan and was again defeated in Semi-Finals to India.
* Pakistan won the first tournament which involved Coloured Jersey.
* India has the largest difference between 2 world cup wins which is 28 years and is tied with Australia in 2 consecutive or non-consecutive victories.
* Kenya has given the best associate performance in the tournament where it came into semi-finals in the 2003 edition of CWC.
* Bangladesh and Ireland may hold the record for the biggest upset in the history of World Cup where they defeated India and Pakistan respectively and eliminated them from the first round.
* Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the only captain to win all three limited-overs ICC tournament as of now.
* Rohit Sharma and Sachin Tendulkar hold the record for most centuries in world cup with 6, while Rohit has recorded for scoring most centuries in single tournament
* Kumar Sangakkara holds the record for most consecutive centuries in the world cup in the 2015 edition of the world cup as 4.
* Australia has won most no of tournaments as 5.
* South Africa didn't participate in world cup until 1992.
* New Zealand and South Africa are regular teams before 21st century who have not won World Cup. South Africa didn't even qualified for the world cup.
* Sri Lanka, New Zealand and England have lost Finals in two consecutive tournaments.
* 2023 edition of the world cup will be the first edition to not reserve any team and only hosts will be allowed to play without passing any qualifications. Rest all team have to compete in a partial 32 team tournament where different teams will have different priorities and only 9 teams will be selected from these.
